First Time

Summary: A drabble written for the LJ community QuantumLeap 100. The challenge was firsts.
My office was dark as I stared at the dusty Scotch bottle. I had promised Sam that I wouldn't touch the stuff, but it was Sam's fault that I was even considering it.
Why did the kid have to go get himself shot? When I saw him lying on the church floor, I thought I was going to die.
Even though Sam had leaped out several hours ago, I'm still seeing visions of him looking dead.
This was the first time I nearly lost Sam on one of these leaps. Something was telling me that it wouldn't be the last.
